Sex U Video Premiere @ Cat Club

Angus:

My friend invited me out to Cat Club on a random Friday in San Francisco for a video premiere. I had never been to a premiere before so my first thoughts was that it was going to be some sort of fancy, stiff event. Instead, it was a great event full of cool people, music, and videos of course. I was told it was a video by David Dutton, which from seeing his video for “Addicted to that 808″ I knew this video would rock as well. Cat Club is this cool, little, punky club located in SOMA. There’s two dance floors and bars, one located in the front and another in the back. For the smokers out there, there’s also a wee alley off to the side with a calming Buddha statue at the end. The alley is one of the coolest parts of the club, and was where I spent most of the time talking with a bunch of new friends. Sadly I didn’t see or notice any drink specials for a bar that has such a cool atmosphere about it. Overall Cat Club is definitely a place to check out for anyone looking to dance to some more punk/alternative tunes.

The video’s directed by David Dutton and is of the song “Sex U” by the band, The Hundred Days. This fantastic video shows the band playing at a club and talking to the ladies. Humorously, these scenes are cut with clips of the the women being mannequins standing in similar positions. This effect becomes really cool in the “robot” dance scene in the middle of the video. Dutton does an amazing job editing and making the girls have a trippy unnatural effect to their dancing. This leads us to connect the disparate scenes of the band with the real girls and the scenes with the mannequins. The music by the band was also very well done; being a well crafted, sexy, alternative dance-rock song. Baeblemusic.com’s embed code for the video is not currently working, but the video can be seen here:

Brit:

Immediately after work Friday night, I made it to SOMA quick style for the second screening of the video premiere for “Sex U” by The Hundred Days. I had never been to Cat Club before and from its poker face on the street I had no idea what to expect. The doorman was sociable and greeted me with small talk; I paid the angsty ticket girl and crossed the threshold. Right away I loved this venue! It was long and narrow with two dance floors each complete with its own bar. Between the dance floor and the first bar was an indoor open-air alleyway for smokers and the mischievous; this area was the token gem in my opinion. As I made my way through the fog and lasers it felt as if the club was unfolding with each step, and I eventually found myself on the dance floor in the back. When the fog lifted, I was able to find my friends. The vibe was positive and fun and it was just the right amount of crowded; there was actually space for everyone to tear it up on the dance floor. I was slightly appalled by my $7 Jameson and ginger, but it was strong and so was the friendly and adorable bartender who served me.  On point as usual, the second screening commenced at 12:15am.

The premise of this racy video was a wild, high-end, night out in San Francisco. The band starts their evening out dancing and macking at Harlot then brings the after party to the ever-fabulous W Hotel. As a voyeuristic viewer we watch the boys try–and fail–at getting some in a deliciously humorous way. The video babes catch the eyes of the band members, but every time one goes in for the kill these ladies become mannequins. The brilliance, angles, and production of this video are unmistakably Dutton. The song itself is smart and fresh and is truly brought to life in this video; it is sure to be a successful single for The Hundred Days. San Francisco’s talented director David Dutton strikes again with one of his finest films yet. The video is cheeky and sexy and had the whole room captivated for a second time around. The video sells the song and this titillating track undoubtedly wants to Sex U.
